Making an Impact
When people think about nonprofit organizations, they rarely make the leap to commercial real estate firms.
A real estate team including someone in the role of Social Impact is even less common. However, for us, making an impact is foundational to our philosophy. M2G Ventures’ capstone is its Mental Health Initiative, which works to change the way mental illness is identified and treated now and for future generations.
As the Director of Social Impact, Katie Wharry is the driving force behind this incredibly important initiative, overseeing fundraising efforts, awareness and advocacy, and the annual fundraiser, Art of the Mind, in the fall. Armed with a degree in advertising from the Texas Christian University, an extensive knowledge of the non-profit world and a background in fundraising, Katie is uniquely qualified for her position at M2G. Within M2G, she inspires each member of our flock to prioritize their own mental health and brings her sunshine energy to the office every day.
Katie’s devotion to M2G’s Mental Health Initiative has allowed M2G to take the initiative to new heights, including breaking all of our fundraising records in her first year as Director of Social Impact.
For Katie, it’s more than just a job. She’s a part of something bigger than herself.

Meet Katie.

Can you briefly describe your role at M2G?
As the Director of Social Impact, I am fortunate enough to manage the Mental Health Initiative for M2G – the non-profit arm of our business. M2G’s MHI is dedicated to funding research to change the way we treat mental illness.
What led you to M2G?
I’ve been in non-profit management for nearly my entire career – I was seeking a new challenge and was thrilled to find a position that married my love for non-profit with helping others with mental health, a topic extremely close to my heart.
M2G’s MHI has two events each year: Muse at the Modern and Art of the Mind. Can you briefly explain each of these events?
Muse at the Modern is our spring educational event where art meets science. Two visionaries draw parallels between science and a specific exhibition taking place at Fort Worth’s Museum of Modern Art. It’s a experience to hear about updates in the research community and the impacts on the brain, relating to mental health. 2025 is our second year for the event, and we are excited to bring Dr. Madhukar Trivedi, with UT Southwestern’s Center for Depression Research and Clinical Care and Dr. Scott Perry, with Cook Children’s Jane and John Justin Neuroscience Center. I hope you can join us on April 2, 2025!
Art of the Mind is our annual fundraising gala that, once again, marries our love of art and science. This exclusive event features an art auction highlighting 10+ local, regional and nationally acclaimed artists and powerful musical entertainment. We are proud to say that, in our 5 years of hosting this event, we have raised $1.5 million to support mental health research in Fort Worth and surrounding areas. Mark your calendars for November 6, 2025 – and stay tuned for exciting musical entertainment!
Why are you passionate about M2G’s Mental Health Initiative?
I am passionate about M2G’s Mental Health Initiative because we all should be. Every single person is impacted by mental illness, and advocating for people is empowering, especially in a world where it often feels like our efforts are a small dot in the grand design. M2G’s MHI is making a larger impact for the treatment of mental health in the long run.
In your opinion, why is the work being done at UTSW’s CDRC critical?
The work Dr. Trivedi and his team are doing is going to change mental health for the next generation. Mental health is discussed with so much stigma in my age group, but that is changing for younger students and children. My hope is that this openness for change creates openness for families to seek new treatments and change their loved one’s trajectory as they live through mental health disorders.
How do you prioritize your mental health personally?
I have to work to maintain a healthy frame of mind – with three kids, I depend on regular work outs! Whether it is running or work outs at home, it’s important to me – and to my kids! I want to show them I’m strong for me and for my family. I also have a strong faith and keep company that lifts me up. During times of hardship, I know that I have support to get me through whatever challenge lies ahead and, for that, I am extremely fortunate.
Tell us about your family!
I have been with my husband, Brian, for 20 years – married for 14 years. We met at TCU (Go Frogs) and love to go to all the TCU Sporting events we can. We are busy with our 3 babies – Thomas (7), Robert (4) and Anna (2) and our 15-year-old cocker spaniel, Ringo. They all keep us on our toes. We are active members of First Presbyterian Church and are most likely hanging out with friends on the weekends. We are lucky to have our extended families close, too, so we spend a lot of time together when we can! We love traveling as much as we can with school schedules and being outdoors as much as possible.
Here’s how to get involved with M2G MHI:
Someone can get involved in M2G’s Mental Health Initiative by making a financial contribution to our initiative, which directly supports Dr. Trivedi’s vital and cutting-edge research, following M2G and the CDRC on social to better understand mental illness, and learning about the many programs and partnerships offered through the CDRC. Community involvement is essential to propelling our mission forward.
