Pendleton to open Texas Flagship Store in Fort Worth Stockyards

Pendleton Woolen Mills is opening its only store in Texas in the Fort Worth’s Historic Stockyards area.

The Portland-based western wool textile company will open its store in the Stockyards’ Mule Alley on May 7, the company announced April 29. Pendleton, a family-owned company that started in 1863, operates two woolen mills in Pendleton, Oregon and Washougal, Washington. There are more than 50 Pendleton stores across the U.S., and the brand is sold in countries across the world.

The brand has an affinity with the western lifestyle, partnering with its hometown rodeo, the Pendleton Round-Up, for more than a century. That attracted the brand to the Stockyards, which has regular rodeos and western heritage events at Cowtown Coliseum.

“As a brand rooted in the west, the Stockyards are an ideal location for us and share in our connection to rodeo culture and American heritage. The deep history and spirit of the district makes it a perfect match for Pendleton,” Bob Christnacht, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Pendleton, said in a statement.

The store is expected to sell exclusive blankets at the location, including a saddle blanket with the Texas state flag and a twin-sized blanket depicting the historic cattle run at the Stockyards.

Mule Alley is a 180,000 square foot retail and restaurant center developed by Majestic Realty Co., Hickman Cos. and retail partner M2G Ventures. Mule Alley features western retailers such as Lucchese, Ariat and Wrangler along with a range of restaurants. The area is also home to Hotel Drover, which was featured in the Michelin guide’s best hotels in the country.

The developers behind the Stockyards are planning a major expansion, despite one of the leaders previously spurring the project leaving.
