ReThink Therapy

It’s Time to Make Space for You.

Jennifer Gay is taking her past personal experiences and using them to help others through her innovative approach to therapy, one where you feel more in control of your own world, and more fulfilled with your life and relationships. ReThink Therapy is focused on making space for you using a customized approach to tough and love. With three therapists on staff, ReThink is able to help individuals, couples and families struggling with everything from anxiety and depression, trauma, discernment counseling, and everything in between. Her biggest piece of advice if you’re struggling? Reach out to someone and find the right therapist!

After nine months of searching Dallas for an office space that was fun, happy and relaxing, Jennifer discovered M2G’s Bogart and knew it was the perfect fit. ReThink is officially seeing patients at Bogart, and we could not be more excited to welcome this impactful, fellow women-owned business to our tenant lineup!

What inspired you to start ReThink Therapy?

When I was going through my most challenging times, I did not know where to turn, so I hired a therapist to help me process what I was going through. The first therapist wrote in her notebook the whole session and I felt judged – I never returned. The second therapist I saw just sat in her chair and nodded her head – I felt alone and never returned. The third therapist I went to was so scripted I knew what she was going to say before she said it. When I told her this, she said that this was “how therapy goes,” so I walked out, feeling like I was not worthy of individual treatment and I never returned. I had several more experiences like these and thought, “Never will I ever” be that therapist.  One that could be described as being impersonal and disconnected from people at their most vulnerable times. ReThink Therapy came out of a desire to show people that therapy does not have to be impersonal and that a therapist writing in a notebook and asking, “How does that make you feel” is not, in my opinion, how change happens. At ReThink Therapy we believe in therapy with a customized amount of tough and love.

What led you to become a therapist? Was there a particular moment in your life that inspired your choice?

You will have to wait for the book to really understand why being a Marriage and Family Therapist was a natural fit for me!  What I can say is that I believe that when I was born, God said, “Life is going to be unbelievably difficult for about 33 years, and when you make it through, you will have the tools, experience, and understanding to have the privilege to walk beside other people during their difficult times.” The realization that I had been through enough and could start healing was the moment I realized that I was going to be a therapist.

How have you seen therapy change someone’s life?

I have seen thousands of people’s lives changed through therapy. The really cool thing is that, as systemic therapists who believe we are interconnected to those around us, we know that if we help one person, we have the potential to change everything and everyone they touch! It is mind-blowing when you actually think about it.

What types of treatments do you offer at ReThink?

ReThink Therapy is privileged to have three therapists with a wealth of knowledge and skill in helping individuals, couples/relationships, and families struggling with everything from anxiety and depression, to intense trauma work, to Discernment Counseling for couples on the brink of divorce, and everything in between.

What is the single greatest piece of advice you have for someone who might be struggling or considering therapy?

First, if you are struggling, reach out to someone…anyone!! You have more people wanting to help you than you will ever know. You don’t have to do life on your own, and you are not burdening someone by reaching out for help. Second, find the right therapist! Therapy is all about fit, and if the therapist is not right for you, therapy will not be as effective.

How would someone go about booking a consultation with you?

To book a consultation, all someone has to do is go to our website and click the “schedule now” button. From there, you choose a therapist and time that works for you, and we will confirm your appointment and send you a short consultation form. This form helps us ensure the therapist is a good fit.

Why did you choose Bogart for ReThink’s office space?

I spent nine months looking at office spaces in Dallas, and none had the right vibe. All the offices I looked at seemed extremely corporate and stuffy, which is not what you want when going to therapy. We wanted the therapy space to be fun, happy, and relaxing, and Bogart checked all these boxes.

What is your favorite building amenity at Bogart?

My favorite amenity at Bogart is the backyard. It is not only a great place to grab some sun but Carl and Otis, our therapy dogs, love to go out there and run around between clients.

If you had to choose one of the many local restaurants and watering holes in the area as your favorite, what would you choose?

One of my biggest passions is cooking, so I prefer to cook to going out. That being said, my favorite place to go after work is Jimmy’s Food Store. I can get a glass of wine while I shop for great ingredients to make a killer meal at home.
